The teams in EMEA Stage 2 Challengers

After the end of Stage 1 Masters, here are the returning and new teams for the EMEA region. For Stage 2 Challengers, unlike NA, EMEA’s teams are remaining very similar to the last stage. This means a modified qualifier, instead offering a promotion tournament for the final two spots.

  • G2 Esports
  • Fnatic
  • FunPlus Phoenix
  • Acend
  • FOKUS
  • Guild Esports
  • OG LDN UTD
  • Team Liquid
  • M3 Champions
  • Natus Vincere
  • BBL Esports
  • BIG

In terms of notable news, M3 Champions are continuing under their new name, as the former Gambit Esports roster. The two promoted teams include FOKUS and BIG, two mixed European rosters. Those two teams beat popular teams like SuperMassive Blaze and Excel Esports to make it into Stage 2 Challengers.

As for the rest of the teams, despite returning from Stage 1 Challengers, some had more roster changes than others. 2021 Champions Acend, after a poor start, swapped Santeri “BONECOLD” Sassi and Vladyslav “Kiles” Shvets for Vakaris “vakk” Bebravičius and Ondřej “MONSTEERR” Petrů. Fnatic also had some roster changes, with Martin “Magnum” Peňkov and Andrey “BraveAF” Gorchakov moving to inactive, with Emir Ali “Alfajer” Beder and Enzo “Enzo” Mestari as the replacements. Asides from those two rosters, the region looks similar.

Groups A and B for EMEA

As for the two groups of six that will dictate the group stage, G2 Esports and Fnatic start in the same one.

Group A

  • G2 Esports
  • Fnatic
  • FunPlus Phoenix
  • Acend
  • OG LDN UTD
  • FOKUS

Group B

  • Guild Esports
  • Team Liquid
  • M3 Champions
  • Natus Vincere
  • BBL Esports
  • BIG

The top four teams from each group will continue to the Stage 2 Challengers playoffs. This leaves the bottom two teams from each group eliminated.

VCT 2022 EMEA Stage 2 Challengers begins on May 13, 2022.
