After three weeks of no news about the game, Konami announced on Thursday that the first-ever in-game event for Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel will be coming soon. The “Xyz Festival” will allow players to play against each other for rewards using a special limited-time format that will focus around the “Xyz” summoning mechanic. In this mode, players will only use Xyz monsters in their extra deck. The event is scheduled to kick off on Thursday, Feb. 17 and will run for a week, ending in the late hours of Wednesday, Feb. 23.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel Xyz Festival explained
In the in-game notification, Konami states that players will: “Duel in the event to gather medals. The more medals you get the more awesome rewards you can earn.” The notification goes on to explain that medals are claimed at the end of each duel and players can immediately gain rewards depending on the number of medals they earn in those duels. Players don’t have to fear only gaining medals for wins. Konami has said that players can earn Medals whether they win, lose or draw.
However, players will not earn medals if they surrender duels. To gain medals players must play out the entire duel. Konami is also rewarding creativity. Players will be able to earn double medals by using their own original deck. Finally, while the event is going on, players can practice against other players in private duel rooms with this limited xyz-only format.
Data mines leaked the event details a week or so ago. The data mine shows that there are possibly two different event setups. One is for tournaments and one is for exhibitions. The data mine for the exhibition setup is near identical to what the official announcement is. With that in mind, this is probably not the other data-mine setup which is more like a tournament structure where players compete for ranking in giant duel rooms. Regardless, Konami will release more details when the event goes live in a few days.
