Nintendo of America announced Tuesday that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will launch on the Nintendo Switch on July 29, two months before its previously-announced September 2022 release window.

Nintendo first announced the latest iteration in the Xenoblade Chronicles series during a Nintendo Direct in February. This will be the fourth standalone edition of the Xenoblade Chronicles franchise, which is itself an extension of Monolith Soft’s Xeno series. Nintendo has not publicly announced why it has opted to move up the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 release date.

In Xenoblade Chronicles 3, players will engage in combat much like previous entries in the series with up to seven characters able to join a player’s party. In addition, the newly-released gameplay trailer appears to show characters morphing together in order to create new forms and battle enemies.

More about the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 release date

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will take place in a land known as Aionios. The main characters, Noah and Mio, will team up with characters from the competing nations of Keves and Agnus. All of them will then explore the sword-pierced region of Swordsmarch.

According to a press release from Nintendo, this game “connects the futures” of the previous two Xenoblade Chronicles titles and “invites players to embark on an epic adventure with ‘life’ as its central theme.”

Alongside the new release date, Nintendo also announced the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Special Edition. This package will include a SteelBook and an art book in addition to the game. Players will only be able to obtain the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Special Edition via the My Nintendo Store.

Finally, Nintendo also announced a special deal related to digital purchases of the previous Xenoblade Chronicles games. In celebration of Xenoblade Chronicles 3’s upcoming launch, players can earn My Nintendo Gold Points by downloading select Xenoblade Chronicles games on the Nintendo Switch. This offer will last until 11:59 p.m. PT on May 2.
