After an exciting 2021 League of Legends World Championship group stage full of tiebreaker matchups (and a smattering of pointless games), teams were drawn into the knockout stage bracket on Monday. The results of the Worlds 2021 knockout bracket draw, with each seed and their journey to this stage so far, are below.
RNG vs. EDG
Royal Never Give Up came up through Group C with a 4-2 record and claimed the first seed thanks to a final tiebreaker matchup against Hanwha Life Esports. They will face Edward Gaming, out of Group B, who also had a 4-2 record but lost out on the first seed thanks to T1’s 5-1 record.
Gen.G vs. Cloud9
Gen.G were a part of the Group D madness and participated in the tiebreaker bracket that ended the Worlds 2021 group stage. The South Korean squad won both of their tiebreaker matchups to take the first seed with a combined record of 5-3. Their opponent, Cloud9 scraped their way to a second seed finish in Group A after a three-way tie for the spot with FunPlus Phoenix and Rogue. Cloud9 are the only North American representative in the knockout stage.
T1 vs. HLE
T1 earned their way to a first seed out of Group B thanks to a 5-1 record against the field. They will play Hanwha Life Esports, who left their group as the second seed thanks to a lost tiebreaker matchup against EDG, with a record of 4-2. The two teams played a best of five previously in the LCK’s Regional Gauntlet tournament to decide their Worlds 2021 seeding into the main event.
DWG KIA vs. MAD Lions
DWG KIA are the first seed out of Group A, who went a perfect 6-0. The South Korean team will face off against Europe’s only representative team, MAD Lions. MAD qualified for the knockout stage through Group D and the group’s wild tiebreaker series. They left the group stage with a combined record of 4-4.
