Blizzard has announced The Great Push Season 2, which is World of Warcraft’s second dungeon one-off tournament of 2021. The Great Push Season 2 will be happening between Dec. 10 and 12.
How it works and what to expect
Each team will consist of five players. They will first compete in the Proving Grounds phase of the competition. During this initial qualifier phase, World of Warcraft teams will receive two keystone combinations to push as far as possible within the tournament realm. The Proving Grounds phase will take place between Dec. 3-5.
Next, the top six teams will get an invitation to the main competition taking place between Dec. 10 and 12. This event will consist of dungeons from the Shadowlands and Legion expansions. Teams will get to showcase their skills by pushing keys as high as possible.
Four World of Warcraft dungeons will be revealed on the first day. This will be followed up by another dungeon reveal on the second day. The last dungeon will be revealed at the beginning of the final day.
At the end of each day, the bottom team will be eliminated, meaning that a total of four teams will fight for the best time on the final day. The World of Warcraft team with the best score will win the lion’s share of the $20,000 prize pool.
World of Warcraft players who wish to compete in The Great Push Season 2 can register via Gamebattles until Nov. 29.
World of Warcraft esports
Earlier in 2021, The Great Push was introduced as a way to grow World of Warcraft esports. Associate Product Manager and Mythic Dungeon International Lead Adrian Archer-Lock provided insights on the format, broadcast and competing regions.
“We thought there was more opportunity to grow out the breadth of that,” Archer-Lock said in an interview. “And so last year, especially, we spent a lot of time thinking [about] the new expansion, with Shadowlands, and just in general—what could be some other fun opportunities with WoW esports to kind of expand that.”
“The Great Push is the first time we’re really taking a stab at this, but we’re already committed to doing a second one-off event later in the year, so we’ll for sure be observing what’s happening here with this event and seeing what are the things the community really likes,” Archer-Lock added in the same interview, referring to The Great Push Season 2.
According to Blizzard, The Great Push Season 2 will improve and build upon the inaugural tournament. It will have World of Warcraft teams push keys across six dungeons again. However, instead of only dungeons from the Shadowlands expansion, it will include two dungeons from Legion.
As fans anticipate The Great Push Season 2, they can also look forward to the Mythic Dungeon International Global Finals. which will take place between Oct. 29-31 and involve a $300,000 prize pool.
