It’s an exciting time for ‘Chel fans across North America. The Winnipeg Jets have officially opened registration for their NHL 19 Tournament. First announced on Dec. 21, 2018, the hockey team’s now accepting registration officially. For ages 14 and up, this tournament is endorsed by WorldGaming Network and runs from Jan. 19 to Feb. 10, 2019. This multiple-round tournament offers over $10,000 in cash and Winnipeg Jets Jerseys valued at $330 each. Online qualifiers for the tournament take place on Jan. 19, 20, 26, and 27. The closed qualifiers then take place on Feb. 9 and 10. The top player from the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One qualifiers will receive a trip to Winnipeg to compete in the grand finals on Feb. 18.

Taking place at the Bell MTS Place, the grand final will be covered live. The tournament’s final best two-out-of-three game is streaming live on JetsTV, and also on WorldGaming’s official Twitch. After the grand final, each finalist teams up with an actual Jets player to face off in a 2v2 show match. An exciting opportunity to be sure for hockey and gaming fans alike. Director of Digital for Truth North Sports + Entertainment Andrew Wilkinson spoke of the event, stating that he is excited to merge hockey and gaming. He also said that the event will “bring fans even closer to the game and the players they love.”

Lucky fans will get to rock some NHL 19 with a Winnipeg Jets player in a show match.

Tournament format

The tournament will be split into three segments:

Stage One: Open Qualifiers

WorldGaming will host a series of open, online tournaments. This will qualify players for later stages of the main tournament. The winner from each of these tournaments qualifies for the second stage. The top four players with the highest records for each console also quality. The competitors earn points by placing 2nd to 8th in every tournament to determine their record.

Stage Two: Closed Qualifier

The six most qualified competitors, by console, play a double elimination bracket. This determines which player qualifies for the next stage.

Stage Three: Grand Finals

The two finalists will face one another.
