One question that has popped up surrounding Hogwarts Legacy is whether or not it will feature microtransactions. This term applies to the in-game purchases that developers implement in games on top of the copy’s retail price.
In the modern era of games, there’s one feature that can completely derail a release before it even happens. Microtransactions are a sour subject in the gaming community, and for good reason. There was a span of several years in the late 2010s that saw almost every new title release with some form of microtransactions. This was seen as an unfavorable practice by many, with governments of some countries going so far as to ban microtransactions in games. So it’s natural that fans want to know if new game releases, like Hogwarts Legacy, will feature any form of in-game purchase.
Thankfully, developers at Avalanche Studios have confirmed no microtransactions will make their way past the walls of Hogwarts.

Hogwarts Legacy will not feature microtransactions
As stated on the Hogwarts Legacy website FAQ, no in-game purchases will be included in the game. “Hogwarts Legacy does not have in-game purchases or micro-transactions,” says the FAQ. It seems the developers are firm on this stance, as they make sure to include the terms “in-game purchases” and “microtransactions” together.
Essentially, this means there won’t be an in-game shop where players can spend real-life money on character customization, add-ons, etc. It looks like all of the content in Hogwarts Legacy will be able to be earned by the player themselves while playing the game naturally.
One aspect that’s likely driving the absence of microtransactions is the fact that Hogwarts Legacy is single-player only. You won’t be able to interact with your friends on an online server or anything of the sort. You will join your own world, create your own experiences and craft your own story. If multiplayer was involved, then the topic of microtransactions might be more prevalent.
So for any fans worrying they would need to pay real money for a new wand or additional customization to their character can put those worries to bed.
