If there’s one thing that players will never run out of in Hogwarts Legacy, it’s gear. It seems like with every chest you open you’re gathering another piece of gear for your character. Not to mention, you gain other gear pieces for completing quests, of which there are over 100 in Hogwarts Legacy. So it’s safe to say that you will always have some choices when it comes to selecting what gear to equip your character with. However, at some point, you will need to either free up space in your gear inventory or make some quick money by selling those pieces.

In any case, you need to know when the right time is to either sell or destroy your gear in Hogwarts Legacy. This guide will attempt to answer that question, so keep reading below for all of the details.

To sell or destroy gear in Hogwarts Legacy?

First and foremost, we almost always advise against destroying your gear in Hogwarts Legacy. Since almost every single gear piece you find is worth at least 60 gold, it’s usually a better idea to find a vendor to sell that gear to rather than just destroy it. However, the one case where we would advise destroying gear is when your inventory is full and you need to free up space. For example, you could destroy a green rarity piece of gear to replace it with a blue rarity piece.

For the most part, though, you should always look to sell the gear that you’re not currently using. You can easily find vendors to take your unwanted gear in Hogsmeade. Of course, if you find a piece of gear that is above your level, we recommend keeping it until you reach the level requirement to equip it. Other than that, though, you don’t need to keep any gear that has stats lower than what you currently have equipped.

Gold is hard to come by in Hogwarts Legacy, so selling all of the gear you’re not using can really increase your bank account. If you’re looking to make more gold outside of selling gear, you can check out our gold-making strategy guide.

So there you have it. We recommend selling gear that you’re not using in every case aside from needing to free up a space in your inventory. In that case, you should destroy it. To destroy gear, go to your gear menu, hover over the piece you want to destroy, and then look at its description on the right side of the screen. You will see an option to destroy that piece at the bottom of that description box, as seen in the screenshot above. If you find you’re reaching the inventory space cap too frequently, you can increase your space by completing Merlin Trials.
