At long last, Activision is finally adding a Ranked Play mode for Call of Duty: Warzone 2. While this is coming to Warzone 2 for the first time, it’s also the first iteration of any official ranked playlist in Warzone’s complete history. The original Warzone never saw anything of this magnitude, but as they always say, “it’s better late than never.”
Earlier today, Activision revealed that Ranked Play is coming to Warzone 2 sometime in the future. It was originally thought that Season 3 would be the timeframe that fans could expect to see the competitive playlist. After all, that is when the Gunfight game mode is coming to Modern Warfare 2. However, as of right now, we don’t have a concrete release date for Ranked Play.
Ranked Play in Warzone 2
All we know about Ranked Play’s release date is that is coming in “Season 3 and beyond.” This doesn’t mean it’s arriving in Season 3. However, it also doesn’t rule out that possibility.
Like with the new Ranked Play in MW2, Treyarch is leading the development of Warzone 2’s version. This likely means that Warzone 2’s Ranked will work very similarly to how MW2’s works. You can read about the Ranked Play in MW2 in our previous article to get a better idea of what you can expect with Warzone 2.
If we had to guess, though, players will work their way through specific Skill Divisions. Players can rank up through these divisions by winning matches and performing well. However, there will likely be more of an emphasis on individual performance and overall placement rather than just winning games. For example, if players place fifth and have eight kills, they can still rank up in their division; it’s likely not going to be all about winning.
There will also certainly be rewards for players who finish in a specific division at the end of each season. Other rewards could also be available, but we’ll have to wait and see. There’s currently no word on when Activision will reveal more details on Ranked Play in Warzone 2.
