Pokémon Trading Card Game Live is the successor to The Pokémon Company International’s previous online simulator, Pokémon Trading Card Game Online. TPCGO was first released in 2011 and has been the only official way to play the Pokémon TCG online since. For over a decade, it has featured every single card set, from the Heart Gold and Soul Silver series to the most recent release of the TCG. The newest set just hit shelves this week, Sun and Moon’s Brilliant Stars. TPCGO featured a full card pool that players were able to collect and then play against each other using the same exact rules as the physical game.
But with a game featuring ancient technology on a wonky 2011 engine, Pokémon desperately needed a new game to compete in a world of online TCG simulators. Konami’s Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel has been an incredible success. It has brought their TCG to the forefront of the TCG genre with its fresh and modern feel and aesthetic. TPCi’s response is Pokémon Trading Card Game Live. This new online simulator brings the Pokémon TCG into the modern world of online simulators. It includes an upgraded look and feel but still captures the cartoony aesthetic that was present in TPCGO. The game will still be the official way to play the Pokémon TCG online. It will feature all the rules and cards that TPCGO had. Players will still be able to use code cards they acquire from opening the physical TCG products. They can still redeem them online for in-game cards.
The game is set to launch worldwide sometime in 2022 but for players in Canada, TPCi just announced that they have opened up a limited beta test for users in that region that is available now from Tuesday, February 22. The game will be available to download for free on Windows and Mac. Of course, it will also be available for download on mobile on the Google Play and Apple App stores.
