We now have our first look at the Washington Justice roster for the Overwatch League. The team would slowly reveal their lineup via Twitter, tweeting out each player over the course of a few hours. The last player they would reveal would be Gi-hyeon “Ado” Chon, who was formerly on the Shanghai Dragons.

Many people already knew of the addition of Joon-hwa “Janus” Song from the New York Excelsior. However, alongside Ado, the team is adding a plethora of new players from Contenders, as well as from Korea. Their DPS consists of Corey “Corey” Nigra, Ethan “Stratus” Yankel and Ado. Additionally, they are bringing in flex tank Hyang-ki “SanSam” Kim to round out their frontline. Meanwhile, their supports are Riley “Fahzix” Taylor, Gi-do “Gido” Mun and Hyeon-woo “Hyeonu” Cho.

The roster is made up of a collection of different players across the league. For example, Corey and Stratus were last playing in the Overwatch Contenders for Gladiators Legion and NRG Esports respectively. SanSam is a Korean player who would last play for Meta Athena in the Korean Overwatch Contenders. Fahzix was also a player on NRG Esports, while Hyeonu was a support on Meta Bellum.
The most well-known players on the roster are definitely Janus, Ado and Gido. All three have Overwatch League experience and were pretty good players in the inaugural season. For example, Janus was a pretty integral part of the New York Excelsior’s dominant season one run. He would be an important cog in the NYXL rotation, along with Tae-hong “MekO” Kim and Dong-gyu “Mano” Kim. Ado would play for the Shanghai Dragons in season one, but everyone knows how their season would end up. Hopefully, Ado can stretch his wings and play to the best of his abilities on a new team.
Finally, Gido was on the Seoul Dynasty roster during the 2018 campaign. Similar to Ado, their first season would not end too well for them. However, with a new team and a new season, he could possibly make something of his chance here with Washington.
Looking to the Future
For the Washington Justice, there is a considerable amount of pressure on their shoulders. A brand-new team in the Overwatch League has to build their entire reputation on this first season. No one wants to become the next Shanghai Dragons with their record-setting 0-40 season. However, for Washington’s roster, as well as many of these expansion teams, it is about making a great first impression on the league. Many of these players are coming from the Contenders, and so they will need to prove themselves amongst the best in the world.
For Janus, Ado and Gido, who have all been in the Overwatch League already, this is a second chance at life for their career. Janus gets a chance to be the starting tank player for a team, while Ado and Gido can redeem themselves from their subpar seasons from last year. We will have to wait and see how the Washington Justice performs this coming February!
