The launch of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is rapidly approaching, with its release date set for Nov. 16. While there’s a mountain of excitement around the next chapter for the battle royale, there are also some questions as to what will happen to the current version of Warzone. The game that changed the Call of Duty franchise and gaming as a whole will be left behind for a newer model.

However, this doesn’t mean that Activision is simply abandoning the game. The current Warzone will be renamed to “Warzone: Caldera” and will still receive some quality of life and bug fixes even after Warzone 2 has launched. It seems like more than just the name is changing, though, as one leaker is reporting Warzone will lose two of its maps in the process.

As of right now, Warzone has three maps: Caldera, Rebirth Island, and Fortune’s Keep. There was always a question as to how Activision would handle these maps after Warzone 2 comes out. Some fans presumed that all of the maps would stay in place for players to play each one if they don’t want to make the jump to Warzone 2. Others made the assumption that Fortune’s Keep would make the switch to Warzone 2 given how new it is.

According to reputable leaker @TheGhostOfHope, both Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep will leave the current version of Warzone. This would just leave Caldera, which makes sense given the new name for Warzone.

TheGhostOfHope claims that both maps will be removed from Warzone right after Warzone 2 releases. It’s unclear if both maps will make the transition to Warzone 2 eventually. Although, Activision likely wants the new Al Mazrah map to be the center of attention for at least the first season of Warzone 2. So it could be months before fans see either Rebirth Island or Fortune’s Keep after Nov. 16. There’s also the possibility that neither map make the switch to Warzone 2.

Fans have predicted that Activision wants to make this move to encourage more players to play Warzone 2 instead of the current Warzone. Of course, none of this is official, so fans should still take this information with a pinch of salt. We’ll likely hear more about Activision’s plans for both Warzone games closer to Nov. 16.
