The long-awaited release of Magic: The Gathering’s newest installment in War of the Spark is finally live on MTG ArenaWAR resolves the story of Nicol Bolas’ grand scheme to obtain ultimate power, a plot that spans nearly 22 years of MTG history. The set features 36 Planeswalker cards, and the overall power level of War of the Spark is off the charts, so buckle up! No matter what format you play, this set is sure to have an impact on it.

If you’re more of a paper Magic player but want to get your hands on War of the Spark before Friday’s midnight prerelease, there’s never been a better time to try out MTG Arena. It’s totally free, and has quickly become one of the community’s favorite ways to play. You can download MTG Arena here.

Once you’ve downloaded the client, and watched the set’s trailer, you’ll be greeted with this screen. From there, you’ll be free to spend your hoarded gold on packs, sealed events, drafts, or cash in some wild cards and brew up your first Standard constructed deck!

MTG Arena - War of the Spark

If you’re looking for the best way to start, Sealed events are often a great choice. Sealed immediately immerses players into the set’s mechanics, and the card pool is quite a bit larger than a draft as well. Each player is given six packs and asked to build a 40-card deck from them.

Once you’ve fine-tuned your manabase and smoothed out your casting curve, you’ll compete with other players using the decks you’ve just constructed. You’re also able to completely reconstruct your deck between games, which is great if your first match doesn’t go too well.

If you’re an Arena veteran and just want to find out what other changes came along with the release of War of the Spark, you can find the MTG Arena War of the Spark Release Notes here.

We’ll be posting an updated list of all the redeemable MTG Arena codes next, so stay tuned for that too!
