There is no shortage of star players in professional Valorant, highlight kings that dominate the conversation about who really is the greatest in the game. Still, there’s more to being the best than getting frags, and Sentinels’ control player Jared “zombs” Gitlin shows that he knows this through his selfless, team oriented play.

The master of budget weaponry, zombs has made a name for himself as one of the best anchor players in the world. In many ways, he is the glue that holds Sentinels together. But this wasn’t always so. For years he was the playmaker in not one but two other esports.

So how did a showstopping DPS become one of the most underrated supports in Valorant?

The Rise of zombs

Zombs began his VALORANT journey, not as a Counter-Strike pro like so many of his fellow players, but as a day one Overwatch hopeful. At the start of the Overwatch beta, Zombs began developing himself as a DPS player. His skill was quickly noticed and Team liquid scouted him following the close of the beta.

However, less than two weeks after his first game with Liquid, and after some lackluster salary offers, Zombs found himself parting ways with the team. He then joined unsigned team WeUnited, playing alongside such notable esports personalities as George “ShaDowBurn” Gushcha and Rod “Slasher” Breslau.

WeUnited’s skill level was a league above other unsigned teams and it wasn’t long before FaZe Clan picked up Zombs and many of his teammates.
