Riot Games is offering up to $100,000 as a bounty reward for individuals that find vulnerabilities in its anti-cheat system for Valorant, Vanguard. Vanguard has been recently criticized for being a highly invasive anti-cheat program that runs continuously on a system on which it has been installed. Riot seems to be persistent about keeping Vanguard the way it is and instead is offering monetary bounties for finding holes in the software.
HackerOne
Riot Games is utilizing HackerOne, a website where tech companies pay for finding faults in their security systems. The special bounties put up by Valorant developers only concern the Vanguard anti-cheat.
This is not the first time that Riot is utilizing HackerOne for finding holes in its security systems. In fact, Riot has been using it for the past six years, awarding “almost two million dollars in bounties.”
In Riot’s message, they have assured their audience that they “wouldn’t work here if we didn’t deeply care about player trust and privacy,” responding to the previous allegations of Vanguard being invasive.
Huge bounty rewards
The bounties offered may very well be the largest ever. The bounties start at $25,000 for finding “Unauthorized access to sensitive data” holes, all the way up to $100,000 for finding exploits related to the kernel level under the “Network attack with no user interaction” category.
The financial rewards are extremely enticing and show Riot’s dedication to their Vanguard anti-cheat system. Despite that, many continue to complain about potential attacks on the highly invasive software that is mandatory to run Valorant.
