Ultimo GG has announced they’re joining forces with English club Birmingham City F.C. to host the first FIFA 22 esports event. The tournament, called the “Battle of the Blues,” will end on Oct. 31 with a grand finale at Birmingham City’s ground, the St. Andrews Stadium.

The Battle of the Blues event is the first of many under the new partnership between Birmingham City F.C. and Ultimo GG. Birmingham City F.C. plays in the English Football League Championship. Their partnership with Ultimo, a platform focusing on tournaments, streaming and video sharing, shows their intention to break into the FIFA scene. The FIFA 22 esports season is yet to fully kick-off for most players, with events being held in November. The Battle of the Blues tournament is an opportunity to play competitively, also serving as a warm-up for the long season ahead.

Format of the FIFA 22 Battle of the Blues tournament

The tournament will take shape as a single-elimination format on PlayStation 4. However, PS5 players can still register using the PS4 version of the game on their new console. The winner of the event takes home a £1,750 cash prize. The partnership also includes other esports initiatives, such as an esports team for the club, esports platform and in-game events.

Ian Dutton, Chief Commercial Officer at Birmingham City Football Club said; “Ultimo GG is helping to pave the way to bringing Birmingham City Football Club into the 21st Century. This event is one of a kind and looks forward to seeing how it plays out.”

Birmingham City F.C. joins a long list of English teams that are beginning to invest in the future of FIFA esports. Also, this initiative could help produce more unknown talent for the ePremier League. Moreover, Ultimo GG plans to host several of these tournaments after launching its series on the final day of the event. Players can now register through the Battle of the Blues FIFA 22 tournament page.
