Treyarch Studios officially revealed one of the most highly-requested features for Call of Duty: Vanguard multiplayer, and that is Ranked Mode. This appears to be a collaboration between Sledgehammer Games and Treyarch, which both have experience developing a Ranked Mode in the past. However, Treyarch seems to have learned from mistakes in this past year’s Ranked Play in Black Ops Cold War.

In the initial tweet about Ranked, Treyarch stated that several requests from the community will be present in the mode within Vanguard. They teased, in the tweet, that “competitive modes, visible Skill Ratings, Ranked Skill Divisions and rewards” are all coming with the mode sometime in 2022. While nothing else was revealed, this is enough to keep competitive Call of Duty players happy until it does eventually release.

Ranked Mode confirmed for Vanguard

Something that few fans saw coming in regards to a Ranked Mode is a collaboration with the Call of Duty League. This is something that’s been lacking in previous years, as the Ranked Modes were more casual than players would have liked. However, with the official franchise league now helping out, fans should expect a more streamlined and competitive experience.

That experience starts with a proper ranking system. Treyarch and Call of Duty stated that a system of this caliber is being developed for Vanguard. Having Skill Ratings visible to all players and Skill Divisions for ranked players is a huge step up from previous years. Rewards are also returning for players who reach a certain Skill Rating or Division. The system sounds like a similar design to what Sledgehammer Games developed for their previous title Call of Duty: WWII.

While Sledgehammer is still on the project in Vanguard, they’re being joined by Treyarch and the CDL. With all of the studios involved, this has the potential to be the best Ranked Mode Call of Duty fans have seen in a long time. Additional details surrounding the mode will arrive “at a later date” but fans can expect it to release sometime in early 2022.
