The 2022 League of Legends Champions Korea summer season is well underway, with games happening five days a week. For fans that don’t have time to watch all the action but want to know what is going on, we at Upcomer are here to provide a daily recap of each day’s games. Here is what happened this Thursday in the 2022 LCK summer season.
KDF take down BRO
The first matchup of the day was actually important for both teams, despite them being on the bottom half of the standings. KwangDong Freecs entered the match with a 4-8 record, but still within reach of a playoff spot. Fredit BRION, on the other hand, came in with a 1-11 record but were still technically in the playoff hunt; however, they would need to win out to have any chance of making it to postseason play.
BRO came to play in Game 1 with a comp focused on the wombo combo. With Alistar, Wukong, Galio and Gnar, the comp is designed to throw all their CC at the enemy in hopes they can win quick teamfights. They didn’t even need that in the early game, as the team jumped out to a 4k gold lead 20 minutes in. Then, after gaining complete control over the dragon objective, BRO captured dragon soul and used their comps strengths to bully KDF away from them. When the game forced both teams to fight, BRO came out on top, taking Game 1 in just 31 minutes.
Game 2 was a Park “Teddy” Jin-seong showcase; KDF’s bot laner got a massive lead early on Jinx, who is one of the most dangerous hyper carries in the entire game. But BRO once again with a teamfight focused composition were able to secure an early ace 20 minutes in to put them into the drivers seat. BRO managed to take three Barons in a row and even up the Dragons at three a piece as their gold lead jumped to 7k. But with Teddy sitting on a full build and at level 18, the gold lead didn’t matter. Teddy couldn’t be taken down in the game-deciding teamfight; KDF snatched Game 2 despite ending the game down seven thousand gold.

Teddy once again played Jinx in Game 3 and with the star bot laner picking up first blood, KDF looked good in the early game. The longer the game went on, the bigger Teddy became and this time KDF had the gold lead and Dragon advantage. In fact, they took Infernal Dragon Soul uncontested. The end was inevitable; with one final team fight 35 minutes in, KDF closed the door on BRO’s coffin as KDF pulled off the reverse sweep to keep their playoff hopes alive and eliminate BRO from contention.
KT defeat DK
With the top two spots in the 2022 LCK Summer standings all but locked up, KT Rolster found themselves with a golden opportunity to cement themselves in the conversation for third. All they had to do was beat the current third place team, DWG KIA.

Throughout the split, KT’s bot laner Kim “Aiming” Ha-ram has been the anchor for this team. But when he went down early against DK’s bot lane, things were not looking good. DK jumped out to a 5k gold lead just 14 minutes in. However, despite DK having a 7k gold lead around the 26 minute mark, it was KT’s top laner Kim “Rascal” Kwang-hee that kept KT in the game. DK decided to throw their massive lead by flipping Baron, which KT stole and then won the teamfight right after. Right after, Rascal bought enough time for Aiming to get back into the game, and the duo hard carried the KT comeback. With Aiming and Rascal at their late-game builds, DK could not do anything but watch their base and teammates get destroyed as KT pull off the comeback upset in Game 1.

Game 2 saw another KT member step up big time as this game was dominated by their jungler Moon “Cuzz” Woo-chan on Viego. Through two early game skirmishes, Cuzz managed to get KT into the lead at the 10 minute mark. DK managed to bring the game back and even took back the gold lead at the 14 minute mark. But with Cuzz already 4/1/1 on Viego, KT had the better teamfight potential. But KT couldn’t push their early lead, instead both teams remained dead even all the way to the 38 minute mark when a fight at Elder Dragon went to DK which could have ended the game.
Instead, DK decided to not risk the game on a potential game-winning push. That turned out to be their mistake — KT took full advantage of the open opportunity. KT managed to take the next Elder Dragon this time and with it, wipe DK from the map. It took nearly 50 minutes, but KT pulled out the 2-0 upset victory to put them just a game behind the third spot in the standings.
