With the conclusion of CDL Major IV, the Call of Duty League turns its attention to Champs. The end-of-year event should be one to remember, as the top eight teams battle through bracket play to earn the CDL Champs title at the Galen Center in Los Angeles.
Champs only took the top eight teams from the CDL standings this season, which means that four teams did not qualify and had their 2022 season end at Major IV. Those teams are Paris, the Los Angeles Guerrillas, Minnesota and Florida. The other eight teams were sorted into a bracket and will compete at Champs beginning on Aug. 4.
The bracket is double-elimination, with every team starting in the winner’s bracket. With a win, they advance to the second round. With a loss, they drop down to the loser’s bracket and their tournament becomes single-elimination. As of right now, we have all four of the winner’s round one matches set in stone based on where each team ended up in the standings following Major IV.
CDL Champs bracket
There are certainly some intriguing matchups right off the bat at Champs. For starters, Atlanta FaZe were the No. 1 seed but will play the Major IV runner-up New York Subliners in Round 1. It’s a tough draw for Atlanta, as NYSL definitely didn’t look the eighth seed over the weekend.
London draws the Major III winners in Seattle, while OpTic Texas and Toronto Ultra will meet at Champs for the second year in a row. Last season, Toronto knocked OpTic out in the losers finals. However, OpTic did defeat the Ultra at Major IV to end their tournament, so it should be a close matchup.
Rounding things out is the Major IV winners vs. the Boston Breach. This is arguably the least competitive matchup, as Boston is facing the hottest team in the CDL. The Breach have also struggled against the Thieves in 2022, so they’ll need to come out hot if they want any chance of surviving LAT in round one.
Champs begins on Aug. 4 and will end on Aug. 7. Fans can tune into the action starting at 3 p.m. ET each day. The full schedule can be found on the CDL’s website.
