The first tournament-style home series event of the Call of Duty League (CDL) took place in London this past weekend. According to information presented by Esports Charts, the peak viewership of the event was 111,129 viewers.

Overall, the event saw an average viewership of 43,688. This shows a decline in the number of viewers that tuned into the YouTube stream compared to the CDL launch weekend, which averaged 49,825 viewers.

There are a variety of possible reasons behind the decreased average viewership figure. It may include the time that the broadcasts began and the timezones they took place in. The first match on Championship Sunday, for instance, began early in the morning for US fans, at 2:30 a.m. PT / 5:30 a.m. ET. Additionally, some fan-favorite teams like the Atlanta FaZe did not attend the event, which no doubt further impacted the viewership numbers.

The match with the highest viewership

The most-viewed match of the London Royal Ravens Home Series was the Grand Final, which saw the Chicago Huntsmen and Dallas Empire battle it out for first place. It’s not surprising; the Grand Final has usually been one of the most-watched matches in past Call of Duty events. This match, though, was further strengthened by the fact that there is a known rivalry between the two teams.

The Grand Final saw the Chicago Huntsmen take a 3-0 win and secured that peak viewership of 111,129. In fact, four of the five most-viewed matches were played by the Chicago Huntsmen, showing a clear fan favorite at the event.

The Call of Duty League’s next event will take place Feb. 22-23 and will be hosted by Atlanta FaZe. Eight teams will attend: Atlanta FaZe, Florida Mutineers, London Royal Ravens, and Optic Gaming LA in Group A, while Group B will hold the Chicago Huntsmen, Minnesota Rokkr, Paris Legion, and Toronto Ultra. The full schedule for this event is available on the Call of Duty League’s website.
