As players reach the post-game in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet they might want to start to think about min-maxing their team through breeding.

There are many benefits to breeding Pokémon including hidden abilities, egg moves, and of course, shiny hunting. But when players breed Pokémon, they are left with a big chore — hatching eggs. Hatching eggs in Pokémon is a pain since it takes a long time and is very tedious. But there is luckily an optimal way to do it.

Here is the fastest way to hatch eggs in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Flame Body

In Pokémon games, hatching eggs requires players to have the egg in their party and walk a certain amount of steps. Each Pokémon has a specific amount of steps required for eggs to hatch and the process is daunting.

The fastest way of doing this usually is to find a big patch of empty space and run around until they hatch. But there is a way to speed this up drastically. There is an ability some Pokémon have that is called Flame Body. The ability in battle has a chance to burn the opposing Pokémon on contact. But it also has another hidden use that isn’t listed. From the third generation onwards, a Pokémon with Flame Body in a player’s party has halved the number of steps needed to hatch eggs. Every mainline Pokémon game since Pokémon Emerald has this feature.

The only thing left to do is find a Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that has this ability. Here is a list of every Pokémon in these games that have this ability:

  • Coalossal
  • Larvesta
  • Volcarona
  • Armarouge
  • Fletchinder
  • Talonflame
  • Carkoal

Some of these Pokémon have Flame Body as their hidden ability which ironically is acquired through breeding. However, players can use the item, Ability Patch which will give a Pokémon their hidden ability.

Essentially, just grab one of these Pokémon with Flame Body, fill your party up with eggs, and run around until the eggs hatch.
