The three most common submachine guns players likely see in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Ranked Play is the Vaznev-9K, Lachmann Sub, and the VEL 46. While the former two are seen much more often than the VEL 46, some players have grown more and more attached to the replica of the MP7. This is for good reason, though, as the VEL 46 can shred enemies at close range if players have the right loadout for it in Ranked.

The VEL 46 has been growing in popularity since the professional CDL season ended in 2023. Perhaps players are simply tired of using the Vaznev-9K, but the VEL 46 is a legitimate challenger to the incumbent best SMG in MW2. Its mobility and close-range damage are its two biggest strengths, and my loadout looks to maximize both of those while minimizing its weaknesses.

To see the full loadout for the VEL 46 in Ranked Play, keep reading below.

Best VEL 46 loadout for MW2 Ranked Play

  • Muzzle: Bruen Pendulum
  • Underbarrel: FSS Sharkfin 90
  • Rear Grip: Schlager Soldier Grip
  • Stock: Demo RXT Stock
  • Magazine: 30 Round Mag

Starting off the loadout are two attachments that will improve your overall recoil control with the VEL 46, but come at a slight loss of mobility. The Bruen Pendulum reduces vertical and horizontal recoil while the FSS Sharkfin 90 improves overall stability. You can also weapon tune the FSS Sharkfin 90 to be more mobile or more accurate depending on your preference.

The last few attachments on the loadout will drastically improve your mobility with the VEL 46. The Schlager Soldier Grip and Demo RXT Stock both improve aim down sights time and sprint-to-fire speed, making the VEL 46 a dominant close range threat. Lastly, there is the 30 Round Mag, which offers a lower base magazine size in exchange for better mobility, which I think is a fair trade-off.

The VEL 46 might not be stronger at range than the Vaznev-9K, but its close range prowess can win you any tight encounter.
