For the first several months of Call of Duty: Warzone, at least this year, the MP40 and its top loadout were the kings of the submachine gun category. Despite other SMGs coming into the game and buffs being applied to several additional guns in the class, the MP40 remained at the top and firmly in the meta. There were simply few better overall options than this classic World War II weapon. While that doesn’t totally remain the case in Season 5, the MP40 still has a dominant loadout that can be utilized on any map in Warzone.

Currently, the top SMGs in Warzone are the Vanguard PPSh-41 and Armaguerra 43. Behind those weapons are the H4 Blixen and the MP40. Essentially, while players could technically use a stronger weapon, they’re not going wrong by equipping the MP40 as their secondary gun. It might be a stretch to use the MP40 as a primary, but on a smaller map players could likely get away with it. Of course, that’s only if players equip the best set of attachments for the MP40.

To see the full loadout for the MP40 in Warzone Season 5, keep reading below.

Best MP40 loadout in Warzone

  • Muzzle: Recoil Booster
  • Barrel: VDD 189mm Short
  • Optic: Slate Reflector
  • Stock: Krausnick 33M Folding
  • Underbarrel: Mark IV Skeletal
  • Magazine: 7.62 Gorenko 45 Round Mags
  • Ammo Type: Subsonic
  • Rear Grip: Taped Grip
  • Perk 1: Brace
  • Perk 2: Quick

There are multiple stats that this loadout increases; fire rate (from the Recoil Booster) is arguably the most important stat boost. This makes the MP40 more competitive with other SMGs like the PPSh-41 and Armaguerra 43. Recoil control, mobility, flinch resistance, and damage range all see boosts as well. The MP40 might not be as dominant as it once was, but it’s certainly worth a loadout slot as either a primary or secondary weapon in Season 5.
