The M1928 is one of the most popular weapons from the World War II era, so it only makes sense that Sledgehammer Games would bring it back in Call of Duty: Vanguard. For players confused about its name, it also goes by the Thompson. While it’s a fan-favorite weapon in Call of Duty, the M1928 needs some help from its loadout to become a usable weapon in Vanguard.

Currently, the M1928 is overshadowed by the MP40 and even the Sten in the submachine gun category of multiplayer. It’s not a horrible weapon by any means but players have much stronger options available to them. Still, players going for Diamond SMGs, or those who simply want to use the M1928, will need to know its recommended loadout in Vanguard.

Best M1928 loadout in Vanguard

When players first use the M1928 without attachments equipped, they’ll immediately notice how much recoil the gun has. It kicks straight up as soon as players start firing and this makes it difficult to control at longer-ranges. For this reason, players should stick to close-range situations with the M1928. The gun’s top loadout helps with these gunfights in multiplayer.

  • Muzzle: Gutts Compensator
  • Barrel:CGC 12″ Cooling
  • Optic: Spitfire MK.3 Reflector
  • Stock: CGC S Adjustable
  • Underbarrel: M1941 Handstop
  • Magazine: .45 ACP 30 Round Fast Mags
  • Ammo Type: Lengthened
  • Rear Grip: Fabric Grip
  • Proficiency: Frenzy
  • Kit: Quick

For starters, several attachments help the M1928 deal with its recoil. This begins with the Gutts Compensator, CGC 12″ Cooling and M1941 Handstop. The Cooling barrel especially helps, as it makes the M1928 “highly accurate and controllable.”

Moving on, there are some attachments to help with the gun’s mobility. The CGC S Adjustable and Fabric Grip both improve ADS and sprint-to-fire speed, while the Quick Kit improves movement speed. The Frenzy Proficiency is also important, as it allows players to regen health faster after a kill. This is perfect for any close-range engagements with more than one enemy.

The M1928 won’t outclass the MP40 in Vanguard but its top loadout certainly improves its ability.
