When Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 first launched, the M16 was undoubtedly the worst weapon in the entirety of multiplayer. It took several bursts to kill enemies, it had a slow fire rate, and the recoil was extremely high for a burst-fire weapon. All of this together made for a gun that no player wanted to use unless they were grinding for Orion camo. However, over the course of the past few seasons, the M16 has seen some buffs in MW2, which might give players a reason to equip a loadout for it now in Season 5.

While the M16 won’t be challenging the TAQ-56 or ISO Hemlock any time soon, it does a serviceable job as a burst-fire AR in multiplayer. It can kill enemies fast if you aim for the upper body and doesn’t make you want to pull your hair out while using it. Of course, to get the most out of your experience, you want to ensure you’re using the right attachments.

The key stats that players want to increase with the M16’s loadout are recoil control and mobility. While damage range is also a stat that needs some help, it’s not as lacking as the other stats.

  • Muzzle: Forge-Tac Castle Comp
  • Optic: Cronen Mini Red Dot
  • Stock: Demo Fade Pro Stock
  • Rear Grip: Sakin ZX Grip
  • Underbarrel: VX Pineapple Vert Grip

For starters, the Forge-Tac Castle Comp muzzle, VX Pineapple Vert Grip, and Sakin ZX Grip all improve the M16’s recoil control. This will allow players to stay on target and try to hit their bursts with the M16 more effectively. Mobility is also slightly boosted with the Demo Fade Pro Stock. Finally, we have the Cronen Mini Red Dot, which gives players a clear sight that lets them hit an enemy from any range.

As a final note, you can use the M16 in the new Modern Warfare 3 and use this same loadout to great effect. However, you will need to change most of the rest of the class, as the perks have been entirely changed in the new multiplayer title. You can still use the same lethal or tactical as well as a similar secondary weapon. Of course, I suggest using some of the new content first so you can experience some of the fresh items in MW3.
