Pokémon GO‘s newest GO Battle League format is the Catch Cup. In this format, you can only use Pokémon you caught after November 9, 2020, 4 PM local time. They must also be under 1,500 CP. This makes for a more limited format with some interesting battles.

Given your location and access to finding different Pokémon, along with what you caught recently, you may have some difficulties getting the best options for this format. Nevertheless, here are the top four Pokémon to use here.

4. Whiscash

Pokémon GO Catch Cup

Whiscash is always a popular option in the Great League, and with its 1,500 CP cap, the Catch Cup is similar. This Water/Ground-type does an excellent job charging up its Charge moves with Mud-Slap. It’s quite bulky and has a decent type combination as well.

To get the most out of Whiscash Mud-Slap is an absolute must for its fast move. For charge moves, you should go with Mud Bomb and Blizzard, or Mud Bomb and Water Pulse. This gives you good options against Flying-type, Ground-type, and Fire-type Pokémon.

3. Wigglytuff

Pokémon GO Catch Cup

Wigglytuff offers good bulk along with the best fast move in the game in Charm. As a Fairy-type, it also checks popular Fighting-type and Dragon-type Pokémon that you might see in the Catch Cup like Machamp or Altaria.

Charm is the absolute best fast move and you shouldn’t take Wigglytuff without it. As for charge moves, your best bets are Ice Beam and Play Rough, although Hyper Beam packs a decent punch as well if you don’t feel the second Fairy-type move is necessary.

2. Altaria

Pokémon GO Catch Cup

Swablu is always readily available, and if you have the candy to evolve it, Altaria is a great pick for the Catch Cup. It has two great fast attack options as well as multiple charge attack options, which offer great Flying and Dragon-type attacks for your team.

For your fast attack, you can choose between Peck if you want a Flying-type move or Dragonbreath if you want a Dragon-type. Dragonbreath is generally preferred here, however. For your Charge moves, Sky Attack and Dragon Pulse are the best options.

1. Skarmory

Pokémon GO Catch Cup

If you can get your hands on a Skarmory, it’s easily one of the best, if not the best Pokémon for this format. Its unique Steel/Flying-type combination gives it a boatload of resistances along with its great natural bulk. If your opponent doesn’t have a Fire or Electric-type move, it will be extremely difficult for them to take it down.

For moves, Skarmory should take Air Slash as its fast move and Sky Attack for its first charge move. For its second charge move, you can take Flash Cannon for Steel-type coverage against popular Fairy-types like Wigglytuff and Whimsicott.

Of course, there are plenty of other great options for the Catch Cup. If you don’t think your team is performing up to par, however, be sure to take a look around and see if you can find any of these.
