The latest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate patch is now live, introducing the game’s final DLC character, Sora from Kingdom Hearts. As always, Smash Ultimate version 13.0.0 also includes several balance changes and other adjustments.

Notably, there was not a single explicit nerf in this update. Instead, the patch notes reveal that a plethora of low and mid-tier characters have received substantial buffs. These characters include Jigglypuff, Dr. Mario, Zelda, Lucario, Rosalina & Luma, Little Mac, Ridley, King K. Rool, Isabelle and Incineroar.

Beyond these buffs, the developer has fixed a bug relating to Kazuya’s side special. Now, any opponents Kazuya forces into the crumple animation using the special attack, cannot be footstooled. In addition, Joker and Hero both have less downtime after their Final Smashes. Of course, those particular changes will not have any impact on competitive Smash.

Breaking down the buffs in Smash Ultimate version 13.0.0

As of Smash Ultimate version 13.0.0, Jigglypuff now has less vulnerability on her jab, back-air and down throw. In addition, her down throw now launches opponents a shorter distance, potentially making it usable as a combo starter. Dr. Mario experienced damage, launch distance, speed and hit detection buffs for many of his moves, including neutral-air, up-air, down-air, side special and down special.

Zelda now has less vulnerability on her jab, more launch power on her rapid jab, higher launch distance for her up and down smashes and a larger sweet spot on her down-air. Smash Ultimate version 13.0.0 has given Lucario a faster down tilt, more knockback on his forward tilt and a bigger and longer-lasting sweet spot on his dash attack.

Rosalina has experienced a few changes that impact how Luma interacts with her down smash and side special. Additionally, Luma’s down smash now deals greater knockback. Little Mac received multiple buffs to his neutral special alone, making it hit safer, stronger and faster. He also got a variety of buffs for his up tilt, downward-angled forward smash, up special and down special.

Ridley received only one change, the fewest of all the buffed characters in Smash Ultimate version 13.0.0. There is now less time between the slamming and dragging animations of Ridley’s side special and when he can input another jump. Meanwhile, King K. Rool received a variety of buffs impacting his up tilt, forward smash, forward-air and up throw.

Isabelle now has a less vulnerable down tilt, a longer-lasting sweet spot on her forward smash, more range on her down smash and greater knockback on both her down smash and forward throw. Finally, Incineroar will now deal more percent with his down smash, up-air and up special. However, only his down smash received a knockback buff; the other attacks have maintained their existing launch distance.
