The CSGO StarLadder Major continues as we dive into the New Legends stage. This part of the tournament follows the exact same pattern as the New Challengers stage. Teams battle in best-of-one matchups, but the format changes to a best-of-three when a team is at the verge of advancing to the playoffs or elimination (2-1,1-2, or 2-2). Here are the most interesting results from the best-of-one matchups at the Berlin major.

NRG squeeze past Renegades

The North American NRG managed to barely get by Renegades on Dust2. Neither team could pull ahead for more than five rounds, especially in the second half. With a 10-5 half for NRG, the Australian side quickly recuperated on their counter-terrorist side and nearly squared things up at 10-9. The battle ended up being between Justin “jks” Savage and Ethan “Ethan” Arnold as both finished the game with extremely close, high statistics. In the end, NRG managed to close things out with a narrow lead of two points, 16-14.

Vitality shut down North

After a hot start in the CSGO Major New Challengers stage, North faced the struggling Vitality. However, the French Vitality looked like an entirely different beast. Dan “apEX” Madesclaire and Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut turned on for the game as Vitality proceeded to dismantle their opponents on Inferno. While the half was still anyone’s game as it finished at 9-6, North’s ct-side was simply too weak against the French. The terrorist onslaught continued to take bombsites, leading up to a dominating score of 16-9 in the end for Vitality. ZywOo’s 3K to bag the last round perfectly sums up the match.

FaZe dismantle young mousesports talent

FaZe versus mousesports was one of the more promising matches of the day. In the end, Filip “neo” Kubski’s side dealt swiftly with mousesports, a team that went 3-0 in the New Challengers stage alongside North. The match on Mirage turned out to be a little playground for Håvard “rain” Nygaard as the Norwegian went rampant on the map, getting 27 frags in just 24 total rounds. FaZe successfully shut down the young duo of Robin “ropz” Kool and David “frozen” Čerňanský. The youngsters failed to get hot, getting just 12 and 10 frags respectively and lacking significant impact in the match. This led to FaZe Clan picking up the easy win at the Major at 16-8.

G2 vs. Natus Vincere goes into overtime

Another hot StarLadder game pit the French G2 against Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev’s Natus Vincere, the first match of the day to go to overtime. The match saw some classic Kenny “kennyS” Schrub action as he was joined by Audric “JaCkz” Jug at the top of the scoreboard. On the other side, s1mple was backed up by Egor “flamie” Vasilyev and Danylo “Zeus” Teslenko as the trio did their best to secure Overpass.

The first half went Na’Vi’s way with a 10-5 score on their ct-side. G2 pulled out an equally strong ct-side as they made a mini-comeback from 14-10 to tie things up and force overtime. G2 then strung three in a row to make it 18-15, just one round away from a victory. A small choke from the French gave Na’Vi an opportunity to force double overtime. However, a fantastic B-rush overwhelmed Na’Vi. JaCkz’s 4K on the last round was a godsend.
