SKT T1 and their redemption run is looking good after a dominating victory over Afreeca Freecs today. The three-time World Champions had all the firepower they would need to take over the series.

SK Telecom T1 is coming off of a convincing first win against Jin Air Green Wings, where they also swept the series. Also, their new players would steal the show, with jungler Kim “Clid” Tae-min and ADC Park “Teddy” Jin-seong winning the game MVP awards. Meanwhile, this was Afreeca Freecs’ first game of the season. This was a good chance to test out their new lineup, and see what shortcomings they need to work on for the season.

SKT rolls over Afreeca Freecs

Game one wasn’t even close, as SKT would take down Afreeca Freecs in 28 minutes. Clid would take the MVP award for the first match, as his proactive, aggressive style of play gave his team leads all over the map. He would finish with 90% kill participation and a 1/0/8 scoreline. Additionally, superstar Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok would show up in game one, leading his team with six kills on his mid lane Urgot.

Game two was an even bigger stomp by SKT, who would take the win in 25 minutes this time. In the whole series, they would exercise their will on Afreeca. It is refreshing to be able to watch SKT play very aggressive while keeping their macro clean and precise. In fact, SKT would not lose a single tower throughout the entire day. This is the style of League of Legends that their coach, Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun, has been building over the years. It is a suffocating style where no team can breathe when facing the Korean juggernaut.

Also, in game two, Teddy would show off his skills once again. The talented ADC would finish with six kills out of sixteen for SKT, while Afreeca Freecs would only find five kills in return. Afreeca Freecs looked like they were still trying to find their identity throughout the game. They also look like they don’t have the same amount of synergy and talent to compete with the higher echelons of the LCK.

Looking Forward

For SKT, they look to continue their domination with a win over Sandbox Gaming. However, Sandbox Gaming is coming off a great win over Gen.G today. We will see if the newcomers of the LCK can upset one of the best teams in the world at the moment. Meanwhile, Afreeca Freecs need to build more cohesiveness as a unit. They have some pretty talented players, such as Kim “Kiin” Gi-in and Son “Ucal” Woo-hyeon, but it is way too early in the season.

Both Kiin and Ucal are top tier talents. Last year, Afreeca Freecs were a top-tier team in the LCK and Ucal was on the KT Rolster superteam. Of course, it will be difficult to adjust to new teammates and new systems. However, the LCK is one of the most unforgiving regions when it comes to settling in. If you aren’t able to keep up with the rest of the league, you’ll be left in the dust.
