Welcome back to the big stage, SK Gaming! The former LEC team has come in and upset the former 2018 World Finalists, Fnatic. Also, this game was a point of discussion due to a big remake of their first game due to latency issues.

Fnatic was coming into this match looking like one of the best teams in the region. Although they did lose a huge part of the roster in Rasmus “Caps” Winther, four of the five members of that Worlds run were still available. Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau looks like one of the best young top laners in Europe, and Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen was a huge reason for their success at Worlds as well. Their new mid laner, Tim “Nemesis” Lipovšek, also looks like he has plenty of talent and potential.

On the other side of the Rift is SK Gaming, who is returning to the main stage with a brand new roster. A big portion of their lineup consists of players from Spanish esports organization, Mad Lions. That old roster recently won the European Masters, as well as the Iberian Cup last year. All eyes were especially on jungler Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek, who was one of the standout players for Mad Lions in 2018. He wouldn’t disappoint today, as he would be the biggest reason for their victory.

SK Gaming Doesn’t Care About Remakes

Right from the get-go, SK Gaming was looking clean and proactive. Selfmade was causing plenty of problems for Fnatic and would help get first blood for his team. Fnatic looked like they were a step behind the young squad of SK, but after a team fight, Fnatic would call for a pause. Apparently, Fnatic players reported some latency issues in-game, which LEC officials would investigate. After a lengthy delay, they would end up playing on a different server.

It was a decision that many people were up in arms about. SK Gaming had a sizable lead and were on their way to a well-earned victory over one of Europe’s finest. Now, they would end up remaking the game and erasing that progress. Additionally, this would affect the picks and bans, as Fnatic would end up banning champions that SK Gaming had used in their first game. However, there was no time to pout, as another game was underway.

Selfmade Star In Progress?

In their “second” game, Selfmade would simply pick up where he left off. He would get off some great ganks to give his team another early lead. However, Fnatic would end up fighting back hard in the mid-game. After four unanswered kills in the top lane, it was looking like Fnatic would push hard for the victory through great team fights. Unfortunately, after multiple shutdowns, SK Gaming would end up taking Baron and pushing into the Fnatic base. There, Selfmade would hit an amazing Sejuani ultimate on Rekkles to win the game.

For Fnatic, it is an eyeopening match that will send them back to the drawing board. They need to work in Nemesis into their system, and it is clear that losing Caps needs to getting used to. However, their team fighting is still top-notch, and once they can get the ball rolling, Fnatic should rise back up to the top of the LEC. For SK Gaming, this is a great confidence booster that should help them with the rest of their games. Beating the team that made it to the Grand Finals of Worlds is a huge feat for a brand-new team, and so they should be proud.
