Sentinels have signed former FaZe Clan player Shane “Rawkus” Flaherty as a coach, adding to their team before VALORANT Champions starts in December. For Rawkus and FaZe Clan, their season ended at the North American Last Chance Qualifier. Rawkus, an experienced player from both the Overwatch League and VALORANT, now has his first coaching role in esports.

Rawkus’ past in esports

For Rawkus, his experience in esports is something not many players in VALORANT esports have. Winning gold at the 2019 Overwatch World Cup for the U.S. was his best accomplishment in his esports career. After three seasons with his only Overwatch League team in the Houston Outlaws, he made the move to VALORANT. He moved alongside a bunch of his competitive Overwatch colleges in late 2020. This became the core for FaZe Clan, as Zachary “ZachaREEE” Lombardo, Andrej “babybay” Francisty and Corey “Corey” Nigra were all former Overwatch League players.

Their highlights together included winning VALORANT Champions Tour Stage 1 Challengers 3, along with finishing second at Stage 1 Masters. While Rawkus and the team also finished second in the Stage 3 Challengers 2 tournament, that was their final deep run in the circuit. They finished in the second round of the lower bracket in Stage 3 Challengers Playoffs and got eliminated first alongside Luminosity in the NA LCQ.

Now, FaZe seem to want a blank slate for their team, as Upcomer has previously reported.

Sentinels’ future with Rawkus

Sentinels mentioned their considerations for adding a coach previously this week. The team will now have a little less than a month to practice with their new coach as they prepare for their Champions campaign. Fans last saw Sentinels at VCT Masters Berlin as they bowed out of the tournament after losing 0-2 to fellow North American squad Envy. Sentinels will debut their new coach on Dec. 5 as Champions begins.
