The Toronto Ultra have been eliminated from Call of Duty League Champs after losing to the Seattle Surge in the second round of the loser’s bracket. Seattle has had a rocky tournament so far, as they lost to Atlanta FaZe in a nail-biting series yesterday. That dropped them to the loser’s bracket, where the Ultra awaited after they lost to OpTic Texas and then defeated the Boston Breach. While Toronto is never down and out, they didn’t bring their best today against a terrifying Seattle squad.

The Ultra have become infamous for being nearly impossible to defeat easily. This current roster always seems to find a way to make matches close in some way or another. That was somewhat true today, with most of the maps being relatively close. However, in the grand scheme of things, the Seattle Surge never truly relinquished control of the series, especially after surviving another thrilling Tuscan Hardpoint to kick off the match.

Yesterday, Seattle defeated Atlanta FaZe on Tuscan Hardpoint in almost the same way they won today against Toronto. Mackenzie “Mack” Kelley and Amer “Pred” Zulbeari went huge for the Surge, securing kills in and around P1 to close out the map. Pred was especially dominant once again, picking up a massive three-piece to keep Toronto away from the hill initially. Pred finished with a 1.36 total KD in this series, continuing his incredible run at Champs.

After a fairly mundane Search and Destroy on Bocage where Seattle eventually claimed victory, the series moved to Control. The Surge have been difficult to defeat in Control, but the Ultra managed to do so fairly easily. Ben “Bance” Bance went huge for Toronto on Berlin Control, dropping 26 kills.

However, the next map on Berlin Hardpoint would be where Toronto’s season came to an end. After being down by over 100 points right from the start, the Ultra battled back to make things interesting in the scoreline. It was too little, too late, though, as the Surge’s lead was insurmountable. Mack and Pred were once again the aggressors on the map, with Mack finishing with 33 kills.

Seattle moves on to face the winner of OpTic Texas and NYSL while Toronto sets their eyes on Modern Warfare II. Toronto finished in sixth place at Champs, earning $80,000.

We’ll be recapping every CDL Champs match throughout the weekend on Upcomer, so stay tuned for more action.
