Legends of Runeterra‘s official release is only a day away. Now, thanks to Riot Games releasing the 1.0 patch notes, we know how the ranked game will change. The Beta season will end bright and early at 9:00 a.m. PT on April 28, just an hour before Legends of Runeterra‘s official release and the next season. This first real season is called the Season of Plunder, and it will bring some major changes to the game.

The Season of Plunder begins

With the release of Season of Plunder, the Beta season comes to an end. Those who played ranked games in the beta will gain an exclusive icon based on the highest tier they reached. All ranked rewards will be available the first time players log in after the release of the 1.0 patch.

Legends of Runeterra will roll out a partial reset for player ranks at the beginning of the Season of Plunder. There will be a one-day period where ranked games will be disabled before players will get the chance to play ranked games. Use this time wisely! The partial resets will follow these guidelines:

  • Master accounts will drop 800LP (8 divisions).
  • Diamond and Platinum accounts will drop 750LP (7 divisions + 50LP).
  • Gold and Silver accounts will drop 675LP (6 divisions + 75LP).
  • Bronze and Iron accounts will reset to Iron IV.

Once the Season of Plunder begins, players will have two months to climb as high as they can until the next season. Riot will reveal the rewards for the Season of Plunder soon, likely once the season gets underway.

Changes coming to the board state

One of the more frustrating mechanics in Legends of Runeterra is the six-unit limit on the board. If the number of units on the board exceeds that limit, they are obliterated. Thankfully, Riot Games is tweaking this system a bit. Whenever an additional unit is played, players can select which units will be obliterated and which can stay.

This change doesn’t allow Last Breath abilities to resolve, as the unit doesn’t die but is instead removed from the game. It also doesn’t affect spells or abilities that create other units. If an ability would bring a unit into play but there are six units out already, they are obliterated. Nevertheless, this should be a great update to the flow of a match as games progress. Oftentimes, players can find themselves stuck with a unit that might have been good in the early rounds of the game but doesn’t scale well late-game. Getting locked out of a match because of a stray 1/1 spider token feels rather bad.

Expedition updates

The Rising Tides expansion that releases on April 28 (depending on your region) introduces Bilgewater to the Expedition format as well. Thus, eight new archetypes will join the draft format. Changes will also come to the other archetypes to accommodate the 120+ new cards.

All the changes coming to Legends of Runeterra ensure that the Season of Plunder will be an exciting and fun release. For more on the 1.0 patch release, make sure to check out our full breakdown. Don’t forget to follow Daily Esports for all your news, guides, deck lists, and more.
