A second player has reportedly left 1907 Fenerbahçe mere days after their Mid-Season Invitational exit. Per esporin.com, Korean top laner Kim “Ruin” Hyeong-min has parted ways with the Turkish squad in favor of Counter Logic Gaming (CLG).

“Ruin”ed no more?

The Korean top laner is no stranger to Power Five regional play, spending time in and out of the EU LCS, mostly under the Giants Gaming organization. In his last two EU LCS splits, Giants were 9th place both splits and and playing in relegation twice. Ruin, however, was seen as a bright spot on one of the worst teams in the league, particularly in 2018 Spring. After Giants were denied during the LEC application process, he went to the Turkish 1907 Fenerbahçe, winning the Spring Split in dominant fashion. He won the second most “Player of the Game” nods in the TCL and finished behind his jungler, Thomas “Kirei” Yuen, in the season MVP voting. In Turkey he was the best performing top laner in the league by a country mile, confirming the “good player on a bad team” label he had acquired on Giants.

What this means for 1907 Fenerbahçe

The reigning TCL champions are in trouble; there is no doubt. They just lost during the Play-In Stage of MSI and lost their two best players not a week later. To lose not only the reigning MVP, but the runner up is a death blow for most organizations, especially mere weeks before the Summer Split. With more free agency moves being announced in the weeks leading up to summer, the champs will have to make some blockbuster moves if they want to retain their title.

What it means for CLG

CLG has been a team down on their luck for the past two years, last making playoffs in the summer of 2017. They are constantly criticized for having an underperforming roster filled with names that haven’t performed in years. The most criticized player is Darshan “Darshan” Upadhyaya, the team’s top laner. Despite being labeled as a split push carry player, Darshan’s performances ranked him among the worst top laners in the league, particularly in the laning phase. The fanbase, labeled as one of the more volatile, has been calling for changes for some time now. Ruin would be a moderate upgrade from Darshan if the Korean is to be the starter, but in a league with names like Licorice, Ssumday, Broken Blade, and Impact, the question is — will he reflect his TCL breakout?

Will Ruin be a positive addition to CLG? Will 1907 Fenerbahçe be able to return from losing two star players? Let us know down below! And stay with Daily Esports for all your League of Legends updates.
