It has been just over two weeks after MIBR would trade Jacky “Stewie2k” Yip for Epitácio “TACO” de Melo and Wilton “zews” Prado. Now, it looks like former coach Janko “YNk” Paunović has a new home. According to Realsport101, YNk is joining FaZe Clan as a head coach. This news also comes on the heels of FaZe head coach, Robert “RobbaN” Dahlström, stepping down from his position.

This news comes after reports surfaced saying that MIBR they will be going for a full Brazilian roster for 2019. These recent moves point to just that, as the team will probably be replacing Tarik “tarik” Celik in the coming weeks. This news also comes after a disappointing finish at BLAST Pro Series Lisbon, where they placed fourth behind Astralis, Natus Vincere and Cloud9. However, this has been a long half year for MIBR, as they haven’t found much success since July.

A Tough 2018 for MIBR

The past year has been a difficult one for the Brazilian organization. Ever since their return to the professional CSGO scene, they haven’t been able to live up to the expectations of fans and analysts alike. They have only won two events in 2018, the 2018 ZOTAC Cup Masters and Season 8 of the ESL Pro League in North America. After that, their top three finishes are far and few between. Additionally, they would suffer some pretty bad exits from several events under YNk’s coaching.

For example, MIBR dropped out of IEM Chicago after two big losses to FaZe Clan and NRG Esports. They fell in the London Major semifinals after losing to Natus Vincere by a 0-2 scoreline. At BLAST Pro Series Copenhagen, MIBR wouldn’t even win a single match, ending last amongst the six teams at the tournament. It was an interesting turn of events for MIBR, who was looking like one of the top teams in the world at its inception.

They didn’t have a problem with talent — they were chockful of incredible players — but they did lack cohesion as a team. It was especially tough for the two American players on the squad, Tarik and Stewie2k. They would voice their struggles on Twitter, with Tarik even stating, “So close but something is really missing. I never had this feeling on a team where I’m so helpless during our games”.

RobbaN steps down from FaZe

RobbaN would release a statement about his decision via Twitter, saying:

Everything comes to an end. A few months ago I made the decision to step down as head coach for FaZe Clan’s CSGO team. I became a dad for the second time back in September and the traveling has been very hard for me. It has been hard to coach and still be the father I want to be. However, I will still work in FaZe; I will have a different role that I will announce later in January.

He would also thank the team, organization, and fans for their support since 2016. It seems like the father of two has shifted his priorities in life, which is understandable and respectable. Being a coach and father must have been way too hard to balance, and his children will obviously be the more important factor in his life. We wish RobbaN the best of luck with his family. Hopefully, we get to see him in the CSGO scene sometime soon!

A Change in Pace

Meanwhile, if we look at FaZe Clan’s accomplishments in 2018, they are not as impressive as one might have predicted. FaZe Clan managed to win three events: IEM Sydney 2018, ESL One Belo Horizonte 2018 and EPICENTER 2018. However, their dominance was also spread very thin across the last year. In fact, they had a pretty bad stretch of events between July and September. In those three months, they suffered early exits from the 2018 ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier, DreamHack Masters Stockholm, the London Major, and ESL One New York.

FaZe has desperately needed a change so maybe changing their coach and picking up a new player could be good for them. We will need to see if YNk can help this team pick up the pace for 2019. Additionally, there have been reports saying that FaZe will be acquiring former Gambit Gaming AWPer, Dauren “AdreN” Kystaubayev. Could these new additions help push FaZe Clan to the next level? We will have to wait and see.
