The RLCS World Championship continued in Vegas for day two! The first teams were to be sent home, and the first upper finalists would make themselves known. You can check out our recap of day 1 of the Rocket League action if you need it. A beginners guide to the teams is also available.

Match 1: Upper Semifinal: Flipsid3 Tactics (EU) vs. Dignitas (EU)
Dignitas has repeatedly had F3’s number in recent times. So much so, in fact, that most expected a quick 3-0 sweep. And while the sweep didn’t happen, F3 didn’t stand a whole lot of chance against the reigning world champions. They managed to take a game off them, but Dignitas proved their class by taking the following two games, the last one in overtime. Dignitas moves on to the upper final to face the winner of Chiefs – We Dem Girlz. Flipsid3 continues their run in the lower bracket.

Match 2: Upper semifinal: Chiefs Esports (OCE) vs. We Dem Girlz (EU)
With impressive performances, Chiefs were starting to build up confidence. If they were able to upset NRG the day before — why not also We Dem Girlz? Well, because WDG was on point and Chiefs didn’t perform to their potential. They got swept with nine goals to one over the entire series. Almost a full shutout. WDG is truly coming alive and showing why they are one of the favorites. They secured a top-three finish alongside Dignitas and will face them in the upper final.

Match 3: Losers round 1: Tainted Minds (OCE) vs. Cloud9 (NA)
No one would have predicted Cloud9 to be in the first losers round, but here they are. Not for long, though. They made quick work of Tainted Minds with a sweep and several goal differences in every game. Tainted Minds crumbled under C9’s pressure and couldn’t manage to keep up. Cloud9 moved on to face NRG in the next round. Tainted Minds headed home in 9th/10th place with $10,000.

Match 4: Losers round 1: G2 Esports (NA) vs. PSG (EU)
Having been matched up against Flipsid3 on day one, there was always going to be a world-class team in the first losers round. With F3’s win, it turned out to be G2. PSG immediately won the first two games with close results. But in true PSG fashion, they lost the following two and looked to be reverse swept again, just like day one. In game five, however, they turned it around once more and managed to scrape out a 1-0 win, sending the crowd favorites G2 straight home with a 0-2 record, just like last season’s RLCS. PSG moved on for a rematch against Evil Geniuses.

Match 5: Losers round 2: NRG (NA) vs. Cloud9 (NA)
With both teams favorites for the title after Dignitas, it was unfortunately going to end after day two for one of them. The games were tense and wins went back and forth, taking till game five overtime to decide a winner. We almost missed it when the stream went offline during game five, but luckily it came back on when they still had a minute to play. Ultimately, it was Cloud9 who kept their RLCS dream alive with a goal from Jesus “Gimmick” Parra in overtime.

Match 6: Losers round 2: Evil Geniuses (NA) vs. PSG (EU)
A rematch from day one, where EG won 3-2 in a reverse sweep. Now PSG could redeem themselves. In what turned out to be the best game of the day, PSG almost took revenge on the North Americans. While EG took the first game, PSG quickly collected themselves and took the following two.
That’s when things started heating up. On match point in game four, PSG went up 3-1 with 30 seconds to play. It looked all over for EG. But EG scored a quick kickoff goal and brought it back to a single goal difference. They now had 28 seconds to force overtime. It started with a misplay from PSG’s Thibault “Chausette45” Grzesiak, who opted for a pass back into his own half to keep possession while the clock ran out. It was Jason “Klassux” Klass who intercepted the ball and passed it to Reed “Chicago” Wilen. The newcomer didn’t hesitate a moment and equalized with nine seconds to go.

EG ended up taking the win in overtime to force a game five. PSG had all the pressure in game five, but couldn’t finish their multiple chances. It was EG who took the win with a single goal and sent PSG home.
