It’s no secret that Fortnite‘s popularity has dramatically diminished in the last year. Epic Games’ brilliant creation has seen huge amounts of change that haven’t been necessarily received positively. This has led the community to be more critical than usual, and it seems many have moved on to other games. However, this negative outcry reached a boiling point yesterday when fans on Twitter got the hashtag #RipFortnite trending globally. With the release of Valorant and Call of Duty: Warzone‘s recent popularity, this is a scary time for Fortnite fans and Epic Games.
Is the end in sight for Fortnite?
In the past few months, Fortnite has gone through a number of surprising events. For starters, several former professional players have left the game behind, including a few high-profile competitors. Also, the game has seen some of its lowest player counts due to the release of Warzone and Valorant.
Amid all of this, however, Epic Games has given the fans who are sticking around little to be excited about. Fortnite Season 2 hasn’t seen too much content even with weekly updates, though there was a recent event with Risky Reels and streaming service Quibi. This went extremely poorly, unfortunately, which might have led to the hashtag #RipFortnite becoming a trending topic on Twitter.

This is, obviously, not a great look for the game that was once on top of the gaming world. However, Fortnite still brings in millions of players and viewers, so the game isn’t anywhere close to being “dead.”
Other games have certainly caught up, though. The aforementioned Valorant and Warzone, along with other titles like Apex Legends, enjoy a large portion of the gaming market at this point in time. Valorant and Warzone especially have dominated in the past month or so, but that’s simply because they’re new.
It will be curious to see how Fortnite‘s viewership and player count look after the novelty of the newer titles has worn off. Fortnite has bounced back countless times before; could another rebound be on the horizon, or is this the beginning of the end for the battle royale?
