With the League of Legends Finals looming, Riot Games has revealed the next three locations for Worlds.

According to Riot, they are “creating more lead time for our major global event planning cycles”, while also giving everyone involved time to plan as well. This is a pretty good response, considering how late Riot was in announcing the locations and venues of Worlds this year. Additionally, this would cause multiple problems amongst the teams, fans, and partners. People would have to buy pricey, last-minute tickets due to the lateness of Riot’s announcement.

Hopefully, by choosing the venue early enough, they will have ample time to confirm venues. This past Worlds, Riot Games would run into multiple problems that would hinder their quest for venues. Their plans with multiple locations would fall through during their negotiations, and they would choose to stay quiet about it. Why? This would give venues leverage when negotiating about prices since they know Riot Games is on a tight schedule.

Next year, Riot Games says that Worlds will be returning to the homes of some of the most competitive regions. In 2019, the World Championship will be coming back to Europe. It has been three years since the last Worlds was held there. The Finals venue for that year was in Berlin, Germany at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. SK Telecom T1 would be in the midst of their dominance from 2013 to mid-2017. Now, Riot is still confirming other venues, but we already know the location of the Finals: Paris, France at the AccorHotels Arena. They also say that we should be getting more Worlds information this month.

Meanwhile, in 2020, Riot Games and League of Legends head to China once again. In 2017, Worlds would hit unprecedented numbers, with more than 80 million viewers tuning in for the semifinals between SK Telecom T1 and Royal Never Give Up. We will have to wait and see whether they will be able to hit those numbers again. Granted, China has one of the biggest player bases and fanbases simply due to its concentration of population. Will we see another king lose its crown in 2020? We will have to wait and see.

Finally, in 2021, Worlds returns back to North America. North America has been one of the more active locations, hosting the event three times out of the eight tournaments. The last time North America would host Worlds, we would witness the miracle run of Albus NoX Luna from Russia. Ultimately, SK Telecom T1 would take the crown again, in a packed Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The only big difference that may happen that year, is the inclusion of Canadian cities, more specifically, Toronto, Canada. The last big Riot event Toronto had was the 2016 NA LCS Finals, where they would sell out the Air Canada Centre twice.

Many people would agree that this crowd was one of the most exciting to be a part of. It was the first ever League of Legends event in Canada, so the whole city turned up. Hopefully, this would show Riot Games that Toronto has a huge fanbase for League of Legends, and should consider bringing more events to the city. It is not likely that they would host the Finals north of the border, but the semifinals could be a good bet.
