As Valorant‘s closed beta heads towards its conclusion, fans are scrambling to make their last-minute suggestions. Throughout the beta, Riot has been surprisingly open and responsive to feedback. This can be seen in how the devs have addressed concerns around the highly intrusive Vanguard anti-cheat system. As a result, Riot has fostered a healthy community of players reporting bugs and participating in feedback threads. Now, it appears the team has taken note of one of the more minuscule concerns about the game.
Valorant-ranked Valorant players
Riot has revealed that it will make a name change to Valorant‘s highest-rated tier. Thus far, Valorant has seven competitive ranks. Starting from the lowest, these include Bronze, Iron, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Immortal, and finally Valorant. Since their unveiling, however, players have discussed the unimpressive title for the game’s highest rank. A quick stroll through Reddit shows several threads of fans brainstorming tier name ideas.
Of course, no one really thought Riot would change the rank’s title. The name was slightly confusing for players, but most expected it to be low on the priority list. But Riot is indeed changing it. Valorant senior designer Sean Szopinski confirmed this in a recent interview with Polygon.
“When we were brainstorming these names, Valorant seemed like a really awesome choice for the top rank. What could be cooler than climbing the ranks, aspiring to become an elite and heroic Valorant, the personification of the game itself! You guys are right though, it’s a bit confusing. We get it. I get it. We’ll change it for launch.”
Following the announcement, gamers have responded positively to the news. The community is already taking to forums with their own proposed titles. One of the more popular suggestions is renaming Valorant to “Challenger” — the highest rank in League of Legends. Others think this rank should be removed altogether, as “Immortal” suits the highest rank. To balance the removal, one user suggested adding a lower tier beneath bronze.
Without a doubt, Riot will have plenty of changes for Valorant‘s rated mode in the future. This name change shows that the developers truly do hear what the community has to say. If this level of communication and thoughtful consideration to the player base continues, it’s safe to say fans have plenty to look forward to.
