One of the best submachine gun players in Call of Duty history is reportedly returning to the professional scene. According to a report from CDL Intel, and confirmed by Upcomer, Jonathan “John” Perez is joining the LA Thieves’ starting roster. The move takes effect immediately and John will likely suit up for the team’s first match in Stage 5.

This development follows the revelation that former LA starter TJ “TJHaLy” Haly is joining the amateur organization WestR. While some thought the Thieves could promote players already in the organization to replace TJHaLy, it seems they’re going with an outside signing.

As of the time of writing, the official LA roster isn’t set in stone. However, it will almost certainly consist of Kenneth “Kenny” Williams, who’s been on the roster the entire season.

John joining first CDL team in LA Thieves

John was considered a top-five SMG player of all time prior to the Modern Warfare season. He boasts one world championship and five other tournament wins. In addition, his last event victory was during the Black Ops 4 season at CWL Fort Worth.

Last season, John mysteriously wasn’t picked up by a CDL organization. It was rumored that he received a ban from league competition. But, those rumors never held any true weight. Near the tail end of the season, John revealed that he was dealing with health problems. Many assumed this was the key reason behind his not competing.

Now, it seems those health problems are behind him. He’s been competing with amateur squad EastR for most of the Cold War season. EastR most notably won the Stage 3 Elite Playoffs and NA Open #3 in CDL Challengers. The success he found with the team, paired with his experience, has seemingly earned him a spot on the LA Thieves.

John will join the roster for Stage 5 of the CDL. However, the starting lineup is currently unclear. LA must choose between several players, including Cuyler “Huke” Garland, Austin “SlasheR” Liddicoat and Zack “Drazah” Jordan. Stage 5 begins on Thursday, July 1 with the Seattle Surge Home Series.
