Just a few days into Call of Duty League rostermania and we have a leak regarding the 2023 season.

According to a report from Dexerto’s Jacob Hale, the 2023 CDL season will begin in December. Hale claims to have received a leaked internal document that apparently originated from the CDL or Activision. This document supposedly outlined the full schedule for the 2023 season, including dates for every major event as well as Champs.

It’s been long-debated whether or not the 2023 CDL season will actually begin in 2023. Fans, owners, and players have pleaded with the CDL for the season to start earlier. After three years of the season beginning in January, it seems the league is finally listening to this request. The document procured by Hale apparently says that the 2023 season will begin shortly after Modern Warfare 2 releases on Oct. 28.

Hale states that a Major I Pro-Am will take place on Dec. 15-18, with online qualifiers occurring in the weeks before that. The leak states that the qualifiers for all stages in 2023 will still be online, while the major events will continue to be on LAN and hosted by individual teams. In regards to Major I, it appears that it will see both professional and amateur teams compete in a Pro-Am event. This will likely be in a similar format to the Pro-Am that took place in the middle of the 2022 CDL season.

However, Hale also mentions that Major I’s championship weekend takes place directly over the course of the FIFA World Cup Final. This would likely cause a viewership decline for the CDL, so there might be a change for Major I’s date.

Beyond Major I, there will be five other major events occurring over the course of the next six months. The full schedule from Hale is viewable below.

  • Major 1 Pro-Am: December 15-18
  • Major 2: February 2-5
  • Major 3: March 9-12
    Major 4: April 20-23
  • Major 5: May 25-28
  • CDL Champs: June 15-18

If this schedule is correct, then the CDL is returning to a five major schedule, with Champs rounding out the year. In regards to Champs, the leaked document from Hale apparently says that Champs will take place in the middle of June, instead of at the beginning of August as it has the past several years. Hale stated they didn’t know what this meant for the 2024 CDL season. Although, perhaps the league is planning some more events beyond Champs this year to fill the gap between seasons.

As of right now, this is simply a leak from a reporter, so fans should take this information with a grain of salt. With Modern Warfare 2 still two months away, we might not hear official confirmation on the schedule for some time.
