Griffin has revealed that its roster’s former mid laner, Shin “Rather” Hyeong-Seop, has become the team’s new coach. After playing the mid lane role for four years, Rather is ready for this opportunity in League of Legends. The move was not a complete surprise after the Griffin organization signed Son “Ucal” Woo-Hyeon just one week ago.

Rather’s history with Griffin

Rather has spent most of his competitive career on the Griffin roster. He first joined the organization back in January of 2017 and has remained with the roster since. He competed in the mid lane role throughout the 2018 season. However, during the 2019 season, Rather was on loan to League Masters Series (LMS) team Flash Wolves.

During his time on loan with Flash Wolves, Rather managed to win the LMS 2019 Spring Playoffs with the team. The loan would have likely become a permanent roster change if it weren’t for the fact that the Flash Wolves disbanded late last year. The team did not manage to obtain a spot in the new Pacific Championship Series (PCS), merged with the LMS.

A new role as coach

Now that Rather has officially moved into the coaching position on the Griffin roster, he has to step it up big time. After the drama that occurred during the last world championship, all eyes are on the Griffin organization to make a comeback. The way things ended at Worlds 2019 was a big disappointment for the roster after their dominant performance throughout that year. The team managed to finish in the top 8 of the event, but many of the fans hoped and expected to see the team in the finals.

Griffin’s first series in the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) happens on Feb. 6. The team will face off against the new roster of the Afreeca Freecs in the 4th series of the 2020 season. For more news surrounding the LCK, be sure to read all about the upcoming schedule.
