PUBG Corporation’s PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds announced that cross-network play will come to consoles later this year. With this upcoming feature, players on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles will be able to play with each other in the same matchmaking pool.

Cross-network play

“First off, I’m very excited to announce that Cross Network Play is coming to PUBG,” added KooSung Jeong, the Producer for PUBG on console. “Our main goal with Cross Network Play is to improve our matchmaking times, which we expect to be shorter for all console players due to the wider pool.”

With the update, players will be able to identify others through the UI to see whether they are Xbox One or PS4 players. This includes players’ names in the menus along with icons in the kill feed, death box, and while spectating. The update will release in late September for testing before going live in early October.

PUBG Season 4 update

Additionally, this impending update will shorten the gap of update release dates between PC and console players. TaeSeok Jang, the Executive Producer for PUBG, says that the Season 4 update on August 27 will bring forward all subsequent future patches. Each update that is released on PC will come no later than two weeks onto PS4 and Xbox One with the newly developed technology.

With the upcoming PUBG update on August 27, season four will release on all consoles. It will implement updates like the rework of Erangel and a new Survivor Battle Pass as well. The new battle pass will cost 1,000 G-Coins and will allow players to finish co-op missions to earn 100+ cosmetic rewards. The custom game feature will also release to PS4 in late October.

With the decreasing gap between PC and console patch timeframes, will we see future updates instantly released across all devices? Let us know in the comments, and keep up with all of the latest PUBG news and content here at Daily Esports.
