Kurt Benkert, a National Football League quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, has joined Spacestation Gaming as a content creator and an alternate for their Halo Infinite team, the organization announced Wednesday.

Benkert joins a roster that currently includes Aaron “Ace” Elam, Alec “Tylenul” Mumper, Kahari “Kuhlect” Miller and Abel “Rammyy” Garcia. Spacestation Gaming are one of nine teams that have partnered with the Halo Championship Series since September.

As a content creator, Benkert will focus on Halo and other shooters like Call of Duty and Fortnite, according to a blog post on the Spacestation Gaming website. In addition, fans will occasionally be able to catch him streaming Madden on his Twitch channel.

Benkert’s road to Spacestation Gaming

Benkert played college football at East Carolina University and the University of Virginia. Then, he joined the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2018. Benkert later signed with the Green Bay Packers in May of 2021 and is currently on the team’s practice squad.

Even amid his ongoing career as a professional athlete, gaming has remained important to Benkert. He has been streaming on Twitch for the past three years. He also balances gaming with training and time spent with his wife and daughter, according to Spacestation’s blog post.

“[We] love the cross-over Kurt brings between his career in the NFL and gaming,” Spacestation Gaming CEO Shawn Pellerin said in the organization’s blog post. “He obviously works very hard at everything he does including gaming and his presence on social media and [we] are excited for him to help Spacestation Gaming continue its growth.”

Besides Benkert and the rest of the Halo roster, Spacestation Gaming also fields teams in numerous other esports. These include Rocket League, Apex Legends, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Rainbow Six Siege, iRacing and Clash of Clans.
