The European region has officially bowed out of Call of Duty Champs; after the Paris Legion failed to quality for Champs, the region’s last hope was the London Royal Ravens. While the Toronto Ultra are an extension of the EU due to their roster, they still are a North American organization. With the hopes and dreams of a region on their backs, the Ravens couldn’t quite pull out a win over the New York Subliners. The loss eliminates them from Champs after they lost to the Seattle Surge in the winner’s bracket yesterday.
London started out this series with so much promise. They went up 1-0 after the opening Hardpoint on Gavutu, a map that favored NYSL. With the SMG work of Byron “Nastie” Plumridge, the Ravens were able to stimy any push from New York. Nastie finished with 30 kills and a 1.43 KD on the map. He was the only member of London to go positive.
Nastie continued his reign of terror on the state of New York on the following map, Desert Siege Search and Destroy, finishing with nine kills. Despite Matt “KiSMET” Tinsley dropping double-digit kills for the Subliners, Nastie and the Ravens were able to match him blow-for-blow and take the map in a convincing fashion.
Next up was Gavutu Control, a map (and mode) that has not been kind to London in the past. However, they have looked much better in Control since Major IV, so hopes were high for EU fans. Unfortunately, the Subliners managed to win their first map of the series on the back of three straight round wins. While the Ravens dominated the first round, they weren’t able to keep it up. This was mainly in part due to Paco “HyDra” Rusiewiez causing so much havoc on the map. That trend would continue throughout the rest of the series.
Riding HyDra’s hot MP40, NYSL strode into Berlin Hardpoint for map four and dominated the Ravens in every facet. HyDra finished with 31 kills while KiSMET dropped 32 of his own. This map win set NYSL up for a potential reverse sweep on Berlin S&D.

As London fans know, Berlin S&D has not been the team’s strong suit in 2022. They traditionally lose the map, and today didn’t write a new story. While the Ravens made it close, the duo of HyDra and KiSMET was too much. They attacked London on offense and picked them apart on defense, leading to a 6-4 map win.
The New York Subliners are moving on to round two of the loser’s bracket at CDL Champs while London begins their offseason much earlier than they’d hoped.
