After winning their best-of-three matches on Day 6 of the PGL Major, Natus Vincere and G2 Esports have locked in their spots in the playoffs. The two teams will boast the only 3-0 match records from the Legends stage of the major. Na’Vi and G2 will be joined by six other teams from the Legends stage, based on the results over the next two days.
To reach the promotion best-of-three match through the Swiss-style bracket, Na’Vi went through Heroic and Virtus.pro on Day 5. Their best-of-three promotion match was against Ninjas in Pyjamas. The CIS squad ripped through the Swedes in two maps; 16-9 on Nuke and 16-9 on Overpass. A few CT round wins from NiP on Overpass were not enough to swing the momentum back on the map and prolong the series.
G2 beat Copenhagen Flames and FaZe Clan in their best-of-one matches. Day 6 set them against Entropiq. G2 won in two maps; 16-14 on Mirage and 16-8 on Dust II. Nikola “NiKo” Kovač was the standout performer from the match, dropping 48 kills with a 1.53 rating across both maps.
For NiP and Entropiq, they still have two more opportunities to win a best-of-three and clinch their playoffs spot.
The biggest storyline coming into the PGL Major is Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev and his quest for his first major. Na’Vi are rated first in the world and are the favorites to win the whole event. In contrast, G2 will be relieved to find 3-0 and secure their playoffs. The international team has struggled in the events leading up to the major, missing out on BLAST Fall finals after a 2-1 loss to MAD Lions. Like s1mple, NiKo is searching for his first major title.
The Champions stage of the PGL Major will begin on Nov. 4 with the quarter finals. The finals will take place on Nov. 7. The playoffs will take place in the Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden in front of a crowd.
