Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung has joined Southeast Asian team Boom Esports as their new head coach, the team announced on Thursday. The veteran Malaysian coach was previously on TNC Predator as they tried to make a run into The International 10.

Mushi joins Boom Esports as head coach
At the end of the 2021 season for TNC Predator, it was up in the air where Mushi would go in the next DOTA Pro Circuit (DPC) season. The goal for TNC Predator when adding Mushi to their lineup was to make it through the regional qualifier and make it into The International 10. However, they eventually lost out to Fnatic in the Grand Finals, ending their season.
Mushi was one of the most successful DOTA pros of all time before retiring and moving to coach in 2019. During his peak, from 2013 to 2016, he was considered one of the best mid laners in the east and cemented his legacy during fantastic International 3 and 4 runs. The team he captained, Orange Esports, were the first representative from Southeast Asia to put the region on the map, making it to losers finals and losing due to the infamous Lee “kYxY” Kong Yang Aegis deny.
After his time as a professional player ended, he started off as a coach for Mineski during The International 9. While he has always been known to coach young talent, Boom Esports presents a new challenge for Mushi — growing another squad with a lot of potential for the 2022 DPC season.
Boom Esports have proven themselves as a new up-and-coming organization from Southeast Asia. The Indonesian-based team put up a great showing during the last Southeast Asian regional qualifier. Even though they lost to TNC Predator in the losers finals, in a close series that went all three games, the Boom Esports squad showed that they had what it takes to compete with the best teams in the region.
There is currently no news as to who will be playing for Boom Esports next year. Players such as Yap “xNova” Jian Wei and Timothy John “Tims” Randrup have been linked to the lineup, but nothing concrete has come out about the roster as of the release of this article.
