The first weekend of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer beta is wrapping up, and players are left with a flurry of thoughts and opinions. While a majority of these opinions can be viewed as feedback for Infinity Ward, some players feel like something’s off with the game. Whether it’s simply a placebo effect or it’s truly happening, some players believe Modern Warfare 2 guns are better off with no attachments equipped on them.
This conversation first began a day or two after the beta went live and players fully unlocked attachments for weapons. Once players threw on the maximum of five attachments on each game, some of them noticed a dropoff in performance. Once this happened, players swapped out attachments to see if the problem lay in what attachments they equipped in the first place. However, the results were seemingly the same.
This phenomenon led players to make the assumption that no attachments were better than any at all.
Modern Warfare 2 guns could be bugged
One of the main proponents for this theory is Warzone streamer and CDL commentator Joe “Merk” DeLuca. Merk tweeted out that he didn’t know how serious he was being, but that attachments felt weird during the Modern Warfare 2 beta.
I’ve been 50% trolling and 50% serious about this beta, but I am pretty sure no attachments is the best thing on every weapon. That’s why the 74u feels so good.

Merk referenced the AK74u, which wasn’t able to have any attachments on it. During the first weekend of the beta, the 74u was arguably the best weapon available to players. Compared to something like the M4 with all five attachments equipped, the 74u didn’t have much recoil at all and killed extremely quickly. Players soon began agreeing with Merk after trying out guns with no attachments.
Call of Duty expert JGOD responded to Merk, stating that it’s weird to “see so many cons on every attachment.” Most players responded with a similar sentiment, stating that since every attachment had at least one or two negatives associated with it, the positives from the attachments are canceled out. Warzone pro Newbz even went so far as to say that he didn’t run a barrel on his guns in the Modern Warfare 2 beta.
It’s unclear exactly what’s going on with the gun attachments in the multiplayer beta. However, as of right now, players not be running five attachments on their guns come launch night.
