Day 2 of the League of Legends 2019 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) has ended. This also marked the end of Group A of Play-Ins. The final match began with a tiebreaker between TCL’s 1907 Fenerbahçe Esports from Turkey and VCS’s Phong Vũ Buffalo from Vietnam. Both teams were at 4 wins and 2 losses. The OPL’s Bombers and the LLA’s Isurus Gaming were tied for the bottom two. They had 2 losses and 4 wins each. The winner of the tiebreaker match would go on to play against the LCS’s Team Liquid.

VCS’s Phong Vũ Buffalo ended up winning against TCL’s 1907 Fenerbahçe Esports. They will go on to the Play-In Knockout Stage to face North American esports organization Team Liquid in a best-of-five. Team Liquid is considered by many to be the favorite in this matchup because of its past success and a new roster as well.

Phong Vũ Buffalo

  • Phạm “Zeros” Minh Lộc – Top
  • Hoàng “Meliodas” Tiến Nhật – Jungle
  • Võ “Naul” Thành Luân – Mid
  • Đặng “BigKoro” Ngọc Tài – ADC
  • Nguyễn “Palette” Hải Trung – Support

Phong Vũ Buffalo played on their home turf and had an almost perfect winning streak during the VCS 2019 Spring Split. They also previously took first place in VCS’s 2018 Summer Split. Currently, their roster consists of the same players they used to make it into the 2018 World Championships.

Team Liquid

  • Jung “Impact” Eon-yeong – Top
  • Jake “Xmithie” Puchero – Jungle
  • Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen – Mid
  • Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng – ADC
  • Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in – Support

Team Liquid has won three consistent first place finishes in the LCS since 2018’s Spring Split. However, in the 2018 Mid-Season Invitational, Team Liquid placed fifth with 4 wins and 6 losses. This was because they lost to Fnatic for the 4th place tiebreaker. In the end, Royal Never Give Up took first, Flash Wolves took second, and KING-ZONE DragonX took third. This year the roster includes the addition of prior World Championship winners and import players, Impact and CoreJJ. With the team’s vast experience, many of their players are looking forward to proving themselves this year at MSI.

Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen, a mid laner for Team Liquid, had this to say for the upcoming match: “I think I’ve always played pretty good internationally so I’m just looking forward to show that NA can be dominant again.”

Phong Vũ Buffalo will play against Team Liquid on May 6 at 1:00 a.m. PDT / 10:00 a.m. CEST. Which team do you think will emerge victoriously? Keep up with all of the latest League of Legends news and content on Daily Esports!
