William “Meteos” Hartman has finally found his way back onto an NA LCS team. The veteran jungler is joining OpTic Gaming on their starting lineup.

This will be Meteos’ latest stint on an NA LCS organization, ever since 100 Thieves would trade him to FlyQuest. Meteos has been one of the longest-playing junglers in the region. For example, his career spans from 2013, where he would play for only two teams. The majority of his career would be spent with Cloud9, from 2013 to 2017. He would then leave the team after Cloud9 would replace him with rookie Juan “Contractz” Arturo Garcia.

100 Thieves and the Meteos trade

Although Meteos would play pretty well on 100 Thieves, he would get into an ugly situation with the Thieves’ management. Two weeks through the 2018 Summer Split, the team would trade Meteos to FlyQuest, in exchange for Andy “AnDa” Hoang. However, the trade would blindside Meteos, as he would make it seem like had no information about the trade. However, after a bunch of tweets and miscommunication, the issues would become clear.

Apparently, 100 Thieves would tell Meteos that they were planning to use Đỗ “Levi” Duy Khánh for Rift Rivals. He would also get different information on whether or not this was a test or if this was for a more permanent solution. In response, Meteos would ask to talk to teams around the league, but not for a trade. He was only seeing if there was interest in his services should Levi replace him.

Unfortunately, it was too late and the misunderstanding would cost him. 100 Thieves would trade him over to FlyQuest for AnDa, and he would join the team soon after. At the same time, he would speak to FlyQuest management, and they would tell him that the starting jungler spot isn’t available. This meant that he would have to play for their Academy team, which he was completely against. However, he would still spend a season on the FlyQuest Academy.

Old Player, New Beginnings

It is good to see that Meteos is getting a new lease on his career. He has been a talented jungler for most of his career and has been consistent for the five years in the league. He was also playing pretty well for 100 Thieves until his trade, so finding a team to redefine himself should be good for him. He now joins a brand-new core with Lee “Crown” Min-ho, who the team would reveal a few days ago.

The OpTic Gaming roster does look a bit unusual, and so fans’ doubts are rightly placed. Sophomore top laner Niship “Dhokla” Doshi will want to continue his growth, as he showed some potential last season. Crown is a huge upgrade to Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage, but how will he play alongside this group of players? Additionally, OpTic Gaming hasn’t given many hints on the status of their bottom lane. The team hasn’t signed Noh “Arrow” Dong-hyeon yet, and their current support Terry “BIG” Chuong hasn’t been too great over the past few years. Hopefully, this roster can use the element of surprise to get some wins under their belt.
